This one is especially for kids.. I thought about how much kids would love to do something easy and basic and feel accomplished having done it all by themselves.
Now my challenge was how to make it furthermore interesting for everyone, children and adults alike. To begin with, I chose 3 different base recipes –
1. Decadent Chocolate Mug Cake with a gooey centre (Not exactly a lava cake but gooey textured)
2. Mango Mug Cake with the King of Fruits
3. Cookie & Cream Mug cake using kids favourite Oreo Cookies
There is something for everyone amongst these recipes. I also shared garnishing these Mug Cakes using easy ingredients available at home. And there we had 3 gorgeous looking and yummm quick, easy desserts recipes here for you.
I always suggest, all the participants who come for my workshops, never let a recipe restrict you! There is always so much more you can do with a simple recipe. For example, in case of these mug cakes, you can whip up a quick one and use it to layer a custard pudding. You could also make cake pops with it. You could do a deconstructed dessert with this cake, some fresh fruits and ice cream or a fruit compote. Basically, options are endless!! So, let me go ahead and share the recipes, so you can get started!!
- Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder (if using), baking powder and baking soda in a mug using a fork.
- Add your melted butter, vanilla essence, milk and mix very well. No dry bits should remain.
- Now add chocolate chips into the centre of the batter in case of the chocolate mug cake. Mix mangos into the batter in case of mango mug cake and mix oreo cookies in case of cookies and cream mug cake.
- Cook in the microwave for 1.5 minutes. Cookies & Cream will need 15 extra seconds of cooking.
- Remove from the microwave and let it cool for few minutes.
- For Chocolate Mug Cake – sprinkle powder sugar and drizzle some chocolate sauce. For Mango Mug Cake – garnish using small pieces of chopped mango and a mint sprig/ leave. For Cookies & Cream, smear the cream cheese and place 2 pieces of Oreo Cookies on top.
- All your Mugs Cakes are ready to be devoured!
- Please do make these, you won’t regret it.
- Mug Cakes should be cooled for a few minutes before you dig in.
- Each microwave has different settings. I used mine on the highest power, but please try 1 recipe and adjust the timing with your experience.
- Do not cool completely, refrigerate, and try to reheat them.
- Best enjoyed when slightly warm after cooking.
- DO NOT expect a perfect sponge cake texture like regular oven cakes. It’s great for a quick fix but isn’t a recipe for professional use.

Can we make this in oven instead of microwave..? Sadly my microwave broke couple of days back…n today a bunch of kids asked me for cakes…I was scrolling and found this recipe…thought to give it a try.. also can I use thermocoal glasses that we get use and throw types…n ya if m using compound chocolate on top won’t it melt…how can I keep them as chunk even if m baking muffins or cupcakes…
Yes you can bake in the oven, but texture may not be the same and also it will take much longer.
